Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need additional cover for a ski holiday?

Standard travel insurance policies don’t tend to cover skiing and snowboarding, but with specialist winter sports travel insurance, you’re covered against things like piste closure, avalanches and emergency medical expenses. Plus, your equipment is protected too, so there’s no need to worry about it getting lost or damaged.

Which winter sports activities are covered?

The best winter sports insurance policies cover you for far more than just skiing. When you purchase our Winter sports upgrade, you’ll be covered for the following winter sports activities, providing that you’re not taking part as a professional, or as part of a race or competition:

• Skiing
• Snowboarding
• Snowbladiing
• Cross-country skiing
• Glacier walking
• Mono-skiing
• Sledging
• Tobogganing

Please note that off-piste skiing and snowboarding are only covered by our winter sports travel insurance policies when you're skiing within the ski-area boundaries of a recognised ski resort, and following Ski-Patrol guidelines. Check the policy document for the full terms and conditions including a list of the activities covered with the upgrade.

Which countries are included?

You can choose travel insurance for a single trip or for several trips throughout the year, across the world.

For skiing holidays in Europe, you can either select the European country you're travelling to for our Single Trip cover, or go for an Annual policy, so that all European countries can be covered. Either way, make sure you also select the winter sports upgrade.

For trips further afield, choose Worldwide (excluding USA and Canada), if you're travelling anywhere in the world except North America. Choose Worldwide (including USA and Canada) for cover in any country (subject to Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office advice). Again, make sure you also select the winter sports upgrade.

I have an EHIC or a GHIC card for my European ski holiday; do I still need additional cover?

Although the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) can help to protect you on holiday, it doesn’t offer comprehensive cover for some of the worst-case scenarios in ski resorts - like mountain rescue or repatriation to a UK hospital.

You must have adequate travel insurance including winter sports cover to go on holiday with Crystal Ski Holidays. It is still well worth taking your EHIC or GHIC card with you regardless.
